This year for Halloween, Morgan and I were able to help my mom corral these 4 hooligans up and down the street so my Dad could take candy duty back at the house. My extended family has never been super close compared to others and I have never been very close to my cousins but that was until these cute four moved close to us. Its been fun to be able to watch them learn and grow. Kids say the funniest things and these four are no exception.
This year was Little Monster's (Cliff) first Halloween, he was hesitant at first holding onto mom's hand or making sure she was there to pick him up as needed but that was until he realized what was happening. After Cliff caught on that if he went to the door people gave him candy, he was moving as fast as his little legs could carry him so he could keep up with his siblings and wouldn't miss out on any candy.
It took everything our little Fairy Princess had to slow down and wait for her brothers. She was so excited to show off her "light up dress" and get more candy. I had to go over manners when it came to other people's front doors by explaining she could only knock three times and then needed to stop and wait... after we got that down she discovered the doorbell.... so I just want to apologize to all those who may have had the pleasure of continuous rings of your doorbell before I caught on to the fact that she had found a way around my "three knocks and wait" rule.
Lenard, Leonardo the ninja turtle... was so excited for me to paint his face green but wore his turtle mask the WHOLE time! That little trooper tried so hard to make it up the driveway all by himself. Every time he would crank his wheels Morgan would give him a little extra push so he could get up just a little faster. But man that kid FLEW down the driveway. After Morgan got him up the hill, this crazy ninja turtle would turn around and let him self fly down the hill. Luckily, Morgan was also there to sneakily put on the breaks. We would ask him "why are you going so fast you crazy ninja" and he would reply like uh, its a no brainer. ..."because I'm going down a hill"
Then we had our Ninja, ( Ralph ) This smarty pants was scoping out his candy as it hit the bottom of the bucket, strategizing how he can trade this or that for his favorite candy. He kept an eye open for his brother Lenard, making sure he was able to get his candy and then run off racing his sister and trading off who gets to knock on the door. All of this was while he tilted his head in a crooked way so he could peek through his costume that kept falling over his eyes.
It was so fun to be reminded how fun Halloween is for these little guys, It gave me a whole new perspective and made this year's Halloween one of the best ones I've had in awhile. I still don't get why we even celebrate it but we do and its so fun.
My main take away this year was looking at things through their eyes. Its so much more fun and exciting. I have so much fun hanging out with these cute four, they are a handful and equally hilarious. I cannot believe that my mom raised 5 of us and kept her head on her shoulders.... its amazing. we were outnumbered 4:3 and we were tag teaming the whole time, running back and forth making sure that we 1. got candy and 2. didn't get hit by a car.... I don't remember Halloween ever being so chaotic.... until now. Between face paints and costumes, again, my mom is a champ.
